I got this Mikrotik CCR1036-12G-4S back in 2014 when they promised that RouterOS v7 with Tile hardware support would be available in 2015. I think
they finally released a beta in 2019, and it was bad. The late v6 builds weren't too bad, so I figured I'd make a hash of it as it had sat in the box
for years. The Mikrotik forum was full of complaints about the power supply, so I figured I'd replace that while I was at it.
Layout of case and some components. The case is quite light material, so I made lots of reinforcements, as I planned to chop lots of holes in it.

Layout of the lid, reinforcement plate, filter flange, fan and filter. The large hole in the lid eliminates stamped-in features. The fan is a San Ace
9CR0812P8S03 80mm 12V dual counter rotating fan. The filter is an AEM 21-2073DK. These worked so nicely I used them later on an In Win 301.

Enclosure base with additional ventilation in the rear (for the CPU) and side (for the power supply) and the various reinforcing pieces and
grilles/guards.

Power supply installed. It is a Meanwell EPP-120S-24, smaller, more powerful and more efficient than the factory unit. It includes active PFC.
|
Enclosure base assembled. To the right of the power entry is a small (and somewhat inadequate) Meanwell buck converter to supply 12V to the main fan,
as the system is 24V. I managed to mount the thing a bit cockeyed. I discovered later that one of my Dad's old combination squares was not exactly
12" long (and not obviously so), so measuring from the wrong side yielded incorrect results. Grrr.

Lid assembled with fan. I don't seem to have any photos of the lid wiring - probably a good thing, as it's a bit of a mess. A very tight fit.
|
Fully assembled...

...And runnning. As you can see, both tachs are readable. The buck converter cannot run the fan at full speed without "hiccupping", but it's not
likely something you'd do in any case.
If anyone wants this thing, drop me an e-mail, as it's still sitting around gathering dust.
